Life on the road. A review of two days with Siva Addiction, Royal Bliss, 12 Stones and Saliva.

**-This is Teresa Burke’s first post with us. We’re very excited to add her skill set to the Rock. Nothing But…family.-**

Whenever I have the chance, I go out and support my favorite bands. After all, if you’re not supporting the music, eventually the music might not be there. This time, my rock-n-roll weekend consisted of travelling from northern IL into Janesville, WI on Friday night and to the southwestern suburbs of Chicago Ridge, IL on Saturday night for the last two dates of the Saliva / Royal Bliss / 12 Stones / Siva Addiction tour. Considering I got home well after 4am both nights, I must give major props to all the bands at this level out there driving themselves day after day from one gig to the next and still having the energy to give the fans 110% up there on stage. By Sunday, I felt like I had been run over by a truck. But I digress. The weekend was full of great bands, awesome tunes and energetic performances. Continue reading

Like I Roll. A video interview with Ben Wells of Black Stone Cherry.

Black Stone Cherry is the pride of Edmonton, KY. Never afraid to be proud of their musical roots and heritage. The band is currently out touring on their third album, Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea. They’re hitting the road with Chickenfoot to support their new single, Like I Roll.

I’ve had a long history with the band, and I’m proud to call them my friends. Coming from a small town in Kentucky myself, I can totally relate to the boys in Black Stone Cherry. Nearly every kid in Kentucky picks up a guitar or a basketball at some point in their life. Music and basketball are simply staples of our culture. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Black Stone Cherry rise from the small club that I used to work with, the A1A Concert Hall in Lexington, KY, all the way to the big stage of Rupp Arena in the span of 6 years. One thing that I’ve noticed, the guys themselves have never changed. They are still some of the nicest people you will ever meet in the music industry. While the intensity, stage presence and quality of songs has improved, their core values and beliefs have not. Black Stone Cherry is a band that the state of Kentucky, and the rest of the world, can be proud of. Continue reading

Musicianship at it’s finest. A show review of Joe Bonamassa at Rupp Arena in Lexington, KY.

If you are a fan of tremendous guitar work, then you should know about Joe Bonamassa. Joe Bona-Who? As the license plates he sales so playfully proclaim. Joe is a veteran of blues rock and has wowed audience the world over. Proclaimed by many, myself included, to be one of the best guitarists alive today. Mr. Bonamassa’s fanbase has been earned, not given. His hard work, dedication, talent and persistance has taken Joe to top of his game. He’s about to release his 13th album in 12 years, and guess what…none of them suck. Continue reading

Not Ready To Die. An interview with G Tom Mac.

Being a musician is never an easy task. Some find success within a band, or as a solo artist. Others find ways to make a living being a songwriter and achieving success and notoriety from their contributions to other artists, or sometimes from the film industry. Today, I introduce you to someone who has had success through nearly all those ways. From collaboration with Ice Cube, Roger Daltrey, KISS and to writing the epic anthem to The Lost Boys film, Cry Little Sister; G Tom Mac has paved his own way his whole career. His newest venture is a solo record titled Untame the Songs. It’s a collection of rockers, acoustics and some funky goodness. Always eclectic in his approach, G Tom Mac has written a real gem of a record. The first single off this record is Not Ready to Die. Continue reading
